Wanaka (pronounced WAH-nuh-kuh) is a beautiful lakeside village nestled in the mountains at the foot of Lake Wanaka. I’m pretty sure we had the best view in the whole town from Wanaka Lakehouse.
This picture was taken from the balcony of the Sky Penthouse. I can’t honestly fathom spending $850 a night to stay anywhere, but apparently people do it all the time here! And the house certainly didn’t lack for any luxury. We were able to use the gourmet kitchen, stone fireplace & pizza oven, 42″ flat screen TV, indoor heated jet pool, and the hot tub on the deck. Our favorite night was eating dark chocolate and drinking ginger beer in the hot tub under the stars!
We obviously didn’t stay in the penthouse suite, but we loved our cozy cottage just as well! Kitty the cat kept us company while we watched movies after dinner (and also slept with us on occasion in the loft bed).
We visited Puzzling World while we were in Wanaka, and while it could run the risk of being an incredibly cheesy tourist attraction, there were some pretty cool features.
Across the street from Puzzling World is a great trail to the peak of Mt. Iron. We were so glad the skies cleared on our last day in Wanaka for a quick hike with some amazing views.
