How many of our favorite places have animal names? Let’s count and see . . .
- The Silly Goose is our favorite restaurant in Nashville.
- The Frothy Monkey is a fantastic coffee shop back home that serves amazing Maple Spice Lattes made with Almond Milk.
- The Pickled Parrot was the name of our hostel in Paihia where we swam with dolphins.
- And The Lazy Cow is the name of our favorite hostel so far in New Zealand!
After leaving Golden Bay, we wanted to do some hiking around Lake Rotoiti in Nelson Lakes National Park. I have never in my life seen so many rainbows as we did on the drive there!
We arrived at the lake just in time to catch another amazing rainbow right over the lake.
But then the rains came. We had a picnic lunch in the car, then decided to head on to our hostel in Murchison, about 45 minutes down the road.
Luckily, rainy weather lends itself very nicely to combinations such as hot tea, movies in bed, and free pumpkin cake! (That’s right, when you arrive at The Lazy Cow, your first piece of homemade cake is free!)
It couldn’t have been a nicer stay. We cooked up a delicious dinner with veggies from our last host’s garden, and paired it with a local beer that the owner of the hostel poured up for us!
Speaking of nice owners, not only did Phil and his wife Alli give us free cake and beer, they found the pair of socks I left in our room and will be mailing them to me! Talk about going above and beyond. I will be especially glad to have my socks back (because when you only travel with 2 pairs, you notice the absence of one of them right away!)
