Nothing much really stays the same for us these days. Our last stay of almost 2 weeks in Mangapai has been the longest we’ve been in one place thus far.
And as much as I love the new scenery and the excitement of a new part of the country to visit, I do like having a routine of sorts.
Something to ground me.
Something familiar.
You’ll remember we met up with our friends Ashley & Justin here in New Zealand when we arrived. Since they’ve been traveling, they have kept up a blog as well, and one recent post in particular really encouraged Drew and I to follow suit.
They talked about being intentional about setting aside time with God every morning. They mentioned how it had strengthened their marriage in big ways.
I have gone through seasons in my life of being consistent with setting aside time to spend with the Holy Spirit, but that’s just what they’ve been–seasons.
With all the change in our lives right now, I have to agree that setting aside time with my Papa each morning has been so precious.
Holding that small, worn Bible in my hands–the one I’ve carried in my purse since high school graduation–and reading those Words of Life has been a homebase of sorts for me as we’re traveling.
A refuge.
Lately I’ve been reading quite a bit in the Psalms.
“For this God is our God for ever and ever. He will be our guide even to the end.” -Ps. 48:14
“I would rather be a door keeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” -Ps. 84:10b-11
. . . and also in Isaiah:
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” -Is. 43:18-19
“Fear not for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” -Is. 43:1b
